Disclosure
WaterModo is free to use, so people often ask how we pay the bills. This page answers that in plain English, and it explains what our money does and does not affect.
Last updated: August 10, 20261. The short version
WaterModo is free for the people who use it. We are paid by water cooler companies when we send them a quote request or when they buy a listing upgrade. That pay never changes a badge, a star rating, or what we write in a guide. If a payment could shape what you see, we say so on the page.
2. Free for you
You never pay WaterModo. Browsing city pages, reading guides, running our cost and sizing tools, and asking for quotes all cost nothing. There is no account to create, no trial, and no card required. The price you get from a supplier is the same whether you found them through us or on your own. We do not add a fee to your rental.
3. How we earn money
Our income comes from the supply side of the market, not from you. Here is every way we make money:
| Source | How it works |
|---|---|
| Referral fees | When we pass your quote request to a supplier, that supplier pays us a flat fee for the introduction. The fee is the same no matter which supplier it is, and it does not depend on whether you sign a contract or how much you spend. |
| Partner quote networks | In markets where we do not work with enough suppliers directly, we route requests through an outside quote network, such as 360Connect. The network pays us for the referral and then lines up matching companies for you. |
| Listing upgrades | A company can pay for a richer profile with photos, a longer description, or a link to its site. Paid profiles are clearly marked and the extra detail is optional information, not a rating. |
| Advertising | We sometimes sell clearly labeled ad space on the site. Any ad is marked as an ad and sits outside the normal listing results. |
| Affiliate links | A few guides link to products or services from other companies. If you buy through one of those links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We label those links when we use them. |
4. What money cannot buy
Some things on WaterModo are simply not for sale. No amount of spending changes them:
- Badges. Verified, Established Provider, NSF Certified Filtration, and Coverage Area badges are earned by meeting published criteria. A company cannot buy one, and paying us does not speed one up.
- The WaterModo Rating. Our 1 to 5 star score is built from public review sources and weighed for volume and recency. Suppliers cannot pay to raise it, and we do not remove a low score on request.
- Guides and tools. No supplier writes, edits, or approves our guides, calculators, or comparisons before we publish them.
- Removal of a rival. We do not take money to hide, bury, or delete another company from the directory.
- Fake reviews or made up numbers. We do not publish reviews we cannot trace to a real source, and we do not invent figures to help a partner.
5. How we order listings
City listings are ordered by how well a company fits the search. We look at whether it truly serves that area, the badges it has earned, its WaterModo Rating, and how complete and current its profile is. Paid placement, when we use it, is labeled on the page so you can tell it apart from a normal result. The order of results is never a ranking of quality, and it is not a recommendation to hire any one company.
6. Editorial independence
The team that writes guides and the team that talks to suppliers work to the same simple rule: the reader comes first. If a fact makes a paying partner look bad, we still publish it. If a partner asks us to change a guide, the answer is no unless they can show us the guide is wrong. We correct real mistakes quickly and note the change on the page.
7. About the prices we publish
Price ranges on this site, such as a typical monthly rental of about $25 to $65, are gathered from public supplier pricing and market research. They are meant to give you a ballpark before you talk to anyone. They are not quotes and they are not promises. Your real cost depends on the model you pick, the filtration, the servicing plan, the length of the contract, and your location. Always confirm the final figure with the supplier in writing.
8. Outside links
We link to supplier websites, review platforms, standards bodies, and other outside pages so you can check our work. We do not control those sites and we are not responsible for what they say, sell, or do with your data. A link is not an endorsement.
9. Not professional advice
Everything on WaterModo is general business information. It is not legal, financial, plumbing, or health advice. Water quality rules, plumbing codes, and lease rules differ by state and by building. Check with a licensed professional or your building manager before you commit to an install.
10. Questions
If anything here is unclear, or you think a page should carry a disclosure and does not, tell us through our contact page. We take that seriously and we will fix it.
